Reservation?It's a discrimination against us now!

That was the first time I felt the impact of reserved seats on my life. I was so surprised to know that most of my friends who were trying to get admissions in Engineering/Medical colleges fell under one or the other category and were entitled for reserved seats, some in spite of not having so good ranks. I frantically went through the list of caste/categories who were entitled for such privilege. I did not come under any one of them. I was desperate to save few 10Ks from my parents pocket. Most of them I knew were from well to do families and still they were claming a seat under quota. Those with marks lesser marks than mine were getting into good colleges and paying less than me. I was very frustrated. Once in a class it happened so that my couple of friends were discussing about their fee. They asked me, “How much I pay?” I was definitely paying very much more. After I replied they were like…so much??!!!. I went frenzy and yelled, “I have not come here under any quota like you both”. I was in tears actually. When you don’t get the reward for you capability you feel so disgusted. I was cursing the whole system. That’s when my dad told me that my grandpa didn’t attach his surname to my dad’s name because it would have revealed his caste and that would have affected in getting him a job in those days. Grandpa with a meager income of that of a school teacher and with 8 mouths to feed definitely didn’t want his son to suffer in future.

Some of those who came under quota couldn’t even clear first semester. Few others also got detained in the following year.

What I find even more amusing is that those who are well off even avail for concessions under quota. It’s damn disgusting. One of my friends whose brother works in a MNC and also they own some acres and acres of land still she got admission under some quota and also takes all books, scholarships meant for them every year. Another friend of mine stays in hostel for now reason. I’m damn sure he is getting some sort of concession because of his caste. In fact there is no need for him to stay in hostel. His home is hardly 10kms from college and more than half of the time he is at home. I loathe them.

I even know of someone who got converted into Sc(just on papers) to get a job!!!

What are these politicians upto? Is quota system going to stay here forever? As far as I have seen/known/experienced this category of people have benefited a lot from this scheme in the past 50+ years. It’s the time that quota system is abolished. This is a bias against us. The so-called upper caste. Do backward people want to be called backward forever?

I’m not against Govt funding somebody’s education. It’s absolutely fine if they provide quota for economically backward classes.

If the Govt want to give them privileges….let them provide good education to these people. Perhaps make separate educational institutions for them and give them best possible education. Why make us suffer? Oh! That reminds me of our lecturers who have got their jobs under quota system. You must listen to their lecture to know how utterly bad they are and how this system has been degrading even the quality of education that’s been imparted in our colleges and schools.

If not anything at least spare our schools and colleges. Quota in LS,RS, Govt offices…….it’s all fine with me but not in educational institutions please… Gone are the days when Sc/St were treated as untouchables, ostracized and with that gone are the days when upper caste people used to suppress them so much. Of course there are some remote corners where such practices still exist. Identify them. Make new schemes to uplift those people and improve their lives.

50+ years has been a long time. Kindly abolish this quota system.
